A given literary text is never wholly untranslatable. In the context of Russian literature, translation and translatability have played a vital role. In fact, according to Russian and translation studies scholar Brian James Baer, modern Russian poetry as we know it was born in a translation. Finally, reiterating Joseph Brodsky’s notion of translation, the blog stressed the importance of recognizing translation as an important literary activity, not a subsidiary art form. In a good discussion of literary translation and the significance of translation in Russian literature, it has been argued that literary untranslatability is not gospel truth.

Indeed, the idea that a translation can never do complete justice to the original does not imply that a high-quality translation is not possible. The widespread suspicion of the literary translation may be traced to a range of factors, including aesthetic purity and the monolingual hegemony of nation-states.

In fact, according to Gideon Lewis-Kraus, our mistrust of translations arguably has its origins in the concept of “infidelity” which dates back to the Ottoman Empire (see “Is Translation an Art or a Math Problem?”, by Gideon Lewis-Kraus in The New York Times, June 4, 2015.)As he argues, “The sultans and the members of their court refused to learn the languages of the infidels, so the task of expediting communication with Europe devolved upon a hereditary caste of translators, the Phanariots.

Such an assertion is evidently fatal and inimical to the very ethos of literature. After all, according to the Russian philosopher and literary critic Mikhail Bakhtin, the “outskirts” is where the pulse of culture is almost palpable. Besides, as the blog post rightly argues, it is a translation that has given us the classics of world literature.

From Greek philosophy translated by Arabic scholars to the birth of Latin literature on the back of a Greek play, translation is the lifeblood of literature and culture. Too, it has been rightly claimed that translation is the gateway to understanding Russian literature.

From Alexander Pushkin to Leo Tolstoy to Vladimir Nabokov, the transcultural spirit of Russian literary traditions cannot be separated from the acclaimed genius of its literary productions. What is more, the new wave of Russian-American literature continues to nourish the selfsame transcultural element innate in the Russian blood.

The blog post also argues that virtuosity is no longer highly valued in the arts. So far as literature is concerned, the postmodern dissolution of literary standards is indeed true. However, a blanket denial of literary virtuosity is still a possibility, albeit a dangerous one. Whether or not it becomes a reality, given the gross liberalization of culture, remains to be seen.

Coronaviruses are a type of virus that causes a range of illnesses including common cold to more severe diseases such as MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) or SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). The recent Coronavirus outbreak is named COVID-19 by the WHO, referring to the type and the year of origin of the virus. Recently, the World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic.  

As of now, there have been 127,000 confirmed cases and 4,718 deaths due to the outbreak. The virus emerged from Wuhan, China and like most CoV viruses, COVID-19 is zoonotic, which means it is transmitted between animals and people. 

Common symptoms of the coronavirus include fever, cough, headache, and difficulty in breathing. In more severe cases, the virus can cause pneumonia, kidney failure or even death. 

In order to protect yourself from catching this virus, you will have to take the same measures that you would take to avoid flu. 

Wash your hands

Our hands come in contact with a lot of things throughout our day. Most of these objects have been touched by other people and there are chances that their infection has been transferred to these objects through direct contact. The COVID-19 has been reported to remain about 48 hours on an object. Therefore, it is necessary that you keep washing your hands every now and then to get rid of the contaminant that you might have acquired.

Cover your face while sneezing

This one is a basic behavior etiquette. You should always cover your mouth while sneezing to avoid propagating the flu. Similarly, when you are around a lot of people, you should cover your face using a mask or a piece of cloth to protect yourself from the potential viruses in the air. Moreover, you should refrain from touching your face, eyes, and nose as they are the body parts most prone to receiving the virus. 

Avoid crowded places

Since the virus can spread from one person to another merely by coming in contact with air that the infected person exhales, it is better to avoid places that are crowded. If you absolutely have to visit bustling places, make sure you are wearing a mask and avoiding touching or coming in physical contact with people.

Besides taking these measures, be smart about avoiding the virus. Although you are not advised to panic as that would lead you nowhere but anxiety, you are also not supposed to take this lightly. Coronavirus is real and it has claimed several lives all over the world since its outbreak. Make smart choices about your living, traveling, and eating habits and make sure your loved ones understand the gravity of the situation. The best and the only way to fight Coronavirus is hygiene. I was studying only to get good marks in any condition even if I had to cheat. Because of private school, I got 9 CAP (grades) easily in 10th class. After the results of 10th class, I pressurized my parents to help me take admission in a government school so that I could easily spare myself from homework and private school’s pressure.

I didn’t have friends for two to three months as govt. the school was new to me. One day I was spotted and handpicked by a group of 8 bad boys in my class. I entered into their bad company and after that my life took a negative turn. I hardly stayed in my class for 1 to 2 periods and most of the time we were in a restaurant or in the playground. The boys in my group were very courageous. They used to quarrel without any reason with anybody to get fame in the school and I was also one of them. We had become the quarrel gang of our school.

I failed in all the subjects except English in the first term so there was a big fear in my mind of getting failed in 11th class. I took 365 days revolution again with a sense of guiltiness. The stress of results was too high that I got loose motion one day before the results. When my Principal came in the ground to announce the results, there was fear in my classmates. The principal announced the result. 48 students out of 49 were able to pass. One got to fail. Everybody thought I was the one who couldn’t pass. The fear in me increased more because of my low self-confidence and bad performance in exams. But by God’s grace, I was able to pass my exams and was promoted to 12^th class.

I didn’t mend my ways even after not getting a good result in 11th and continued wasting my precious time. One day one of my teachers noticed me because of my good response in the class and called me in the staff room and advised me to stay away from the bad company and focus on my studies. He made me realize that my family was spending a lot of money to help me become a successful man. I thought about it a lot and I started preparing for my board exams.

My teacher’s advice was a turning point of my life and after it, I switched off my ph and started studying for 8-10 hours in holidays and 5-6 hours in school days and I made a distance from my bad friends. I remember how hard I worked. I failed in pre-boards exams but in final boards, I scored 80% due to my hard work..

Now I have got to know the real value of education and success and I am living a meaningful life. Now I have a purpose to do something good for my family and my country. Everyone should know the importance of education and success and everyone should have a purpose of life.

Students went to Pacific Mall. (Subhash Nagar) It was a valentine week and students got the chance to interact with the people and got to know what people feel about Valentine day. Different people were of a different opinion but in nutshell, all were in the mood of enjoyment. Students could see people of all age groups enjoying their loved ones. Students interacted with the outlet’s staff to know how enthusiastic their customers were and if their sales got a hike because of valentine week.

Outdoor activity was great exposure for the students and it helped them immensely in gaining confidence.  It is rightly said you don’t learn swimming by just sitting at the shore. You need to get into the water. Students thanked Engmates to help them get practical training and become a confident public speaker.
