Making an appointment is easy when you know how. You can book a doctor’s appointment or schedule a job interview with ease, and knowing how to make an appointment in English will help you feel comfortable and confident speaking the language. Plus, it’s not just about making an appointment; it’s also about understanding what happens at that appointment. That’s why we’ve included questions that can help guide your conversation with a doctor or other professional who might be involved in the meeting\u2014or even just give you more information about what they do during those sessions!<\/span><\/p>\n

That is why we focus on conversational English in our Spoken English classes<\/a> <\/strong>and interview preparation classes<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Make sure you have the right number.<\/b><\/h2>\n

Before you call, make sure you have the right number. If it’s a business, check their hours or ask them if they are open.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you’re calling someone’s home or cell phone, be polite and say hello first before asking to speak with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Choose a time and date.<\/b><\/h2>\n

When making an appointment, it’s important to consider the time and date of your appointment. Choose a time that works for you and the other person. If possible, pick a time that is convenient for both parties; however, if you are unable to choose a mutually-convenient time then be specific about the date, time and location.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s also important that you be very specific about why you need to meet with this person. For example: “I’d like to talk with [the other person] about [the reason].” This shows courtesy and respect towards them by letting them know what their role will be in helping make this happen (even if it’s just a simple phone call).<\/span><\/p>\n

Know your purpose.<\/b><\/h2>\n

It’s important to know your purpose. This will help you prepare, and also avoid any confusion about what you want the appointment for. If your goal is simply to get a new prescription for glasses or contact lenses, then it\u2019s not necessary to bring in photos of yourself in all different types of frames. You can just bring a list of the brands that are available at your optometrist’s office and discuss which ones might work best for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

If your goal is to find out if there\u2019s anything else that can be done about an issue with your eyesight besides glasses or contacts, then having photos from different angles showing how much light gets into each eye when looking straight ahead will be useful (more on this later).<\/span><\/p>\n
